We are trying to find solutions to ensure security of Syrian Armenians – Nalbandian
We are closely following the developments in Syria and trying to find solutions in the respect of ensuring the security of Syrian Armenians, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian told reporters on Wednesday.
Edward Nalbandian visited Damascus on May 27 at the invitation of Syria’s Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem. During the visit, Mr Nalbandian met with Syria’s senior officials and representatives of the local Armenian community.
Nalbandian told the news conference that the aim of his Syria visit was to familiarize with the developments in the country.
“I think the crisis can be settled through immediate cease of military operations, dialogue between all political forces in Syria, protection of the rights of ethnic minorities, including Christians and Syrian Armenians, and common position and fight against terrorism,” Armenia’s top diplomat noted.
He also said that thousands of Syrian Armenians have moved to Armenia and the Armenian authorities are doing their best to support the Syrian Armenians.
