Expert: German Bundestag may consider Armenian Genocide resolution by second half of July
The German Bundestag is expected to hold a discussion and make a final decision on the draft resolution on the Armenian Genocide by the second half of July, historian Ashot Hayruni told reporters on Monday.
The Bundestag parties introduced resolutions on the Armenian Genocide, calling on to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide. However, under Turkey’s pressure, the words “deportation” and “killing” were used in the resolutions, the historian said.
“Following German President Joachim Gauck’s message, it was decided to make changes in the draft resolution’s text in favor of the President’s position,” said the expert.
Mr Hayruni noted that the new text contains both acceptable and unacceptable formulations. However, according to him, it is more favorable than the 2005 resolution.
