Iranian official: One of routes of delivering Iranian gas to Europe may pass through Armenia
One of the routes of delivering Iranian gas to Europe may pass through the territory of Armenia, National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) International Affairs Manager Azizollah Ramazani said, according to the Iranian news agency ISNA.
Speaking about the possibility of delivering the Iranian gas to Europe, the Iranian official pointed out several routes, one of them being Iran-Armenia-Georgia-Black Sea route. The possibilities of delivering gas to Europe through Iran-Turkey, Iran-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Black Sea, Iran-Iraq-Syria-Lebanon routes are being discussed in Tehran as well.
National Iranian Gas Company International Affairs Manager added that Iran is capable of delivering about 30 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe annually.
In April, in an interview to the program R-Evolutia on Armenia TV, the IRI Ambassador to Armenia, Mohammad Reisi, spoke about the possibility of transporting Iranian gas through the territory of Armenia. “Iranian gas supply to Europe has not been considered yet, but if there are such discussions, Armenia can also be considered as a short, secure and economically beneficial variant,” he said.
When asked whether the agreement signed between Armenia and Russia in the field of gas can become an obstacle for the Armenian-Iranian energy projects, Ambassador Reisi said, “A contract with 20 years’ term has been signed between Iran and Armenia. Taking into consideration the agreement signed between Armenia and Russia, the contract signed by Armenia and Iran undergoes no changes, it is still in force.”
