At least 30 killed, 10 injured in landslides in northeastern Nepal
At least 30 people have been killed and a further ten have sustained serious injuries in landslides caused by continuous heavy rain in Nepal’s northeastern Taplejung district, the Nepalese Republica newspaper reported Thursday, citing local authorities and eyewitnesses, according to Sputnik.
According to the newspaper, local police fear that the death toll could rise as dozens of homes have been flooded. In addition, continuing landslides further complicate rescue efforts.
Acting Chief District Officer Surendra Bhattarai told journalists that the weather conditions made it impossible to transport the injured to hospital.
