Armenia ranks 91st in Global Peace Index, Azerbaijan in 132nd position
Armenia ranks 91st in Global Peace Index released by the Institute for Economics and Peace, while Azerbaijan is in 132nd position.
In 2014, more ceasefire violations were reported in the zone of the ‘frozen’ Karabakh conflict. The positions of both countries worsened as compared with the previous year, due to an increase in deaths as a result of ceasefire violations. Azerbaijan’s position worsened also due to a large increase in arms imports .
Neighboring Georgia is in 79th place, Iran in 138th, and Turkey in 135th position. Russia was ranked 152nd, the U.S. – 94th. According to the report, Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world, and Syria is the least peaceful.
