Armenian parliament votes unanimously for bill on state payment of servicemen’s treatment abroad
At the extraordinary session today, on June 18, Armenia’s National Assembly adopted unanimously (with 101 votes in favor) the draft amendments to the Law on Social Security of Servicemen and their Family Members. The bill was submitted by MPs Edmon Marukyan and Arpine Hovhannisyan.
On May 21 the above mentioned draft amendments were approved by Armenian government. They envisage that if a serviceman suffered an injury while on duty and that injury is impossible to treat in Armenia, the state will finance treatment abroad.
As was reported, earlier independent MP Edmon Marukyan told Panorama.am that the need for amendments arose following problems with organization of serviceman Gevorg Yeghiazaryan’s treatment abroad. He was wounded by gunfire from the Azerbaijani side.
According to Marukyan, discussions were held after the bill’s introduction and even then it was evident that the bill would be endorsed. “I don’t think that even one person in Armenia would oppose this initiative,” MP said at that time.
