Belgian Prime Minister recognizes Armenian Genocide on behalf of his government
Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel considered the 1915 events in the Ottoman Empire as genocide. At a plenary session of Belgium’s House of Representatives yesterday, on June 18, on behalf of his government, he recognized the Armenian Genocide, Belgian DeMorgen reports.
“I believe that the tragic events that took place in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1917 should be considered a genocide, and this is also the position of the Belgian government ,” the Belgian Prime Minister said in response to a question of MP Peter De Roover – who drafted the resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide – regarding the government’s position.
