Vladimir Gasparyan: “The Police will reimburse the material losses incurred by the journalists”
“The Police have long been tolerant, but allowing a downtown avenue to remain closed for traffic for another day would be violation of the rights of others. If we want to establish rule of law, we shall not pursue that through illegal means”, - said the Head of the Police of Armenia Vladimir Gasparyan in an interview to Gala TV, referring to the clashes between the protesters and law enforcement representatives that took place early in the morning of June 23 on the outskirts of Baghramyan Avenue in Yerevan.
The Head of Police apologized for the violence against journalists, claiming that official investigation will shed more light on what had happened.
“There are certain flaws that I have seen in our work, especially with regards to the media reporters. I apologize for that. We have launched an official investigation and we will manage that. I am aware that certain technical equipment was broken, and the police will reimburse the material losses incurred by the journalists”, - said the Head of the Police of Armenia, adding that they would not tolerate it if the good service of the policemen was attempted to spoil through improper actions.
“I have been following the entire process, the actions by the law enforcement representatives have been proportional and that’s the reason we don’t have serious injuries that we used to have over time. The flaws that we have now we will eliminate within a short period of time”, - concluded Gasparyan.
