WB report on further operation of Nairit Plant posted on website of Armenian Energy Ministry
Today the World Bank Yerevan office has submitted the final report on "Nairit Plant" CJSC’s further operation, technical and financial viability to Armenian Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, according to the ministry’s press service.
The assessment conducted by WB was open and public.
The report in Armenian and English is available at the official website of the Ministry- minenergy.am.
Armenian Government earlier asked the World Bank to assess the viability of the plant. The audit was carried out by the experts of Jacobs Consultancy Company, with the World Bank summarizing the results.
Workers of Nairit Plant have staged protests since late 2014. They demand payment of their back wages which total 5.7 billion drams over 4 years. On February 6, 2015 the plant announced 1,700 layoffs. At a press conference on May 13 Energy Minister Yervand Zakharyan said work is underway to repay in full the back wages of Nairit staff. “I can’t tell the exact date, but I hope we will create such an opportunity by the end of the year,” he said.
