Comedian Vardan Petrosyan under supervision of doctors while on hunger strike in solidarity with demonstrators
Well-known comedian Vardan Petrosyan - who went on June 24 on a hunger strike in ‘Nubarashen’ prison in solidarity with supporters of ‘No to Robbery’ civic initiative protesting a rise in power tariffs in Armenia - is under the supervision of doctors. He is in satisfactory condition, the head of press service of Armenian Justice Ministry’s Criminal Executive Department Gor Glechyan told Panorama.am.
V. Petrosyan who got 5 years in prison in January yesterday filed an application about his hunger strike to prison administration. “I am not with you physically, but in this way I can express my solidarity to all participants in the protest,” he said addressing the protesters.
Meanwhile the sit-in against the power tariff rise is underway on Bagramian Avenue in central Yerevan. Demonstrators stress that the rallies they have staged since June 19 are social by nature. They demand that the head of state revoke the decision by Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission of June 17 to raise the electricity tariffs by 6.93 drams.
