Armenian police chief Gasparyan speaks to demonstrators in Bagramian Avenue
Armenian Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan spoke to demonstrators on Bagramian Avenue in downtown Yerevan where a sit-in of supporters of ‘No to Robbery’ civic initiative is underway against the rise in electricity tariffs.
“I have come here to see what is going on so that unforeseen things will not happen,” V. Gasparyan said in response to reporters’ question about the aim of his visit.
‘As you can see, it’s a good thing when there is some orderliness. Garbage bins were cleaned. Be at peace, and everything will be all right,” the police chief said.
Talking with protesters, Gasparyan said: “Prior to opposing, stop for a moment and only then go on”.
As was reported, a sit-in of supporters of ‘No to Robbery’ civic initiative is underway on Bagramian Avenue in downtown Yerevan to protest the power tariff rise. Participants say the protests they have staged since June 19 are purely social by nature. They demand that the head of state revoke the decision of the Public Services Regulatory Commission of June 17 to raise the electricity tariff by 6.93 drams.
