One more audit is envisaged to verify the decision of Public Services Regulatory Commission
At a meeting with those in charge of state economic policies on June 27 President Serzh Sargsyan suggested to invite another audit – into the Public Services Regulatory Commission – to figure out to what extent the Commission’s decision to approve the electricity tariff increase of 6.93AMD had been well-grounded.
«I would suggest to invite any international consulting firm that will have a solid reputation and experience in the energy field, also through engaging representatives of the protesters in that selection process, should the need be. That firm may be tasked to answer the following two questions: how much the price increase was reasoned, and what might the possible dangers to the energy system be should the price remain intact», - President Sargsyan said.
«The cancellation of the electricity tariff increase is ultimately dangerous. Therefore, until the conclusion [of the audit] is ready the government will shoulder the whole weight of this price hike. Of course, we will not pull out the ongoing programs or social expenditures, but will identify other resources among the means allotted for the further strengthening of [energy] security. Certainly, our security issues are far from being solved, to say the least, and yet that environment of suspicion and distrust that we have now, I think is another security issue and a very important one. And that must be solved»,- Serzh Sargsyan concluded.
