Ambassador: France calls on Karabakh conflict parties to be consistent and insightful
The position of France on this issue is clear and definite: efforts are necessary to prevent any manifestation of violence, French Ambassador to Armenia Jean-Francois Charpentier said at a press conference today when commenting on recent gunfire opened by Azerbaijani troops at Armenian positions in the Nakhijevan section of the border, near Gorayk settlement in Armenia’s Syunik province.
The spokesman for Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan earlier wrote on his Facebook page: “Around 6:30 pm June 26 the enemy opened heavy fire at Armenian positions in Nakhijevan section of the border, near Gorayk settlement of Armenia’s Syunik province. Large-caliber guns were also used. The enemy suffered serious casualties after the Armenian side returned fire. Unfortunately, Private Arman Yepremyan, 28, a contract serviceman of the Armenian armed forces, was killed in battle”.
“We offer our condolences to the family and friends of the fallen soldier,” the ambassador said adding that France condemns any manifestation of violence.
In his words, it does not mean the incident and those violations will make them abandon their policy. “We will spare no efforts to assist efficiently with the continuation of the negotiating process. We urge the sides to be insightful, consistent and vigilant and start looking for possible options of conflict settlement,” the French ambassador said.
