E. Sharmazanov calls Azerbaijan’s militarist policy inadmissible
A delegation led by Vice Speaker of Armenian parliament Edward Sharmazanov met with Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarusian parliament Vladimir Andreychenko on June 29, the press service of Armenian National Assembly reports.
The sides discussed the further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and stressed the importance of active work by Inter-Parliamentary Commission. They pointed out cooperation in international parliamentary structures, including PA of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the International Parliamentary Assembly of CIS.
Speaking about the Karabakh conflict settlement in the context of regional stability and security, E. Sharmazanov denounced a military resolution to conflicts, calling the militarist policy of Azerbaijan inadmissible. V. Andreychenko said for his part Belarus supports a peaceful resolution to the Karabakh problem within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
The Armenian parliament vice speaker described this year as a unique one for the Armenian people: the centenary of the Armenian Genocide was commemorated on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the victory in WWII. He said the date is of importance to the Armenian people and the international community not only for reconsideration of historical facts, but also from the viewpoint of preventing such crimes in the future. He stressed the need for a joint struggle against Nazi ideology, fascism and xenophobia.
The sides also discussed issues related to the development of inter-parliamentary ties and political and economic links between the two countries.
