Herbert Salber: EU position to keep OSCE Minsk Group format on Karabakh problem solution remains unchanged
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received today, on July 8, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Herbert Salber, according to the presidential press service.
The sides discussed issues related to regional stability and security, the current stage of negotiations on a peaceful resolution to the Karabakh conflict, the existing challenges and possible actions to advance the talks, as well as Armenia-European Union cooperation.
S. Sargsyan stressed that Armenia highly appreciates the balanced position of the EU on the Karabakh problem and its commitment to the creation of a favorable atmosphere for a comprehensive resolution of the problem.
The president highlighted the importance of support by Eastern Partnership Riga Summit on May 21-22 for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs on Karabakh conflict settlement, including the statements made by the presidents of the co-chair states since 2009.
H. Salber said the Riga Summit declaration’s wording on the Karabakh conflict is fair and in line with the situation.
He reaffirmed the EU support for negotiations on the Karabakh settlement within the framework of OSCE Minsk Group. He stressed that the position of the EU to keep that format remains unchanged.
