Investigators and lawyers learn of peculiarities of probation service during workshop at Armenia’s Chamber of Advocates
The Chamber of Advocates of Armenia conducted a workshop for investigators and lawyers as part of Support to the Establishment of Probation Service in Armenia program, the press service of the Chamber of Advocates reported.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Justice Minister of Armenia Suren Krmoyan attached importance to the introduction of a probation service in Armenia. Local expert, first deputy chairman of the Chamber of Advocates Arthur Hovhannisyan spoke about the probation service’s problems, main provisions, and draft legal acts developed based on the concept.
Arthur Hovhannisyan also discussed efficiency of probation in Armenia and presented the structure of the probation service and its activities at pretrial, trial, penitentiary, and post-penitentiary stages.
The peculiarities of juvenile probation were also addressed. International expert Christopher Frost spoke about the role of the judicial system in practice. Another international expert, Andy Bernhardt, informed the workshop participants about the functions of the probation service.
As was reported, Support to the Establishment of Probation Service in Armenia” project is implemented by the Council of Europe and funded by the Government of Norway through the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Norwegian MFA).
