Serzh Sargsyan: International struggle against the crime of genocide should get renewed impetus
“As a nation that was subjected to genocide, we were reborn, created statehood and have now an opportunity to be a vanguard in the struggle against the crime of genocide,” Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said in his opening speech at the 12th Conference of the International Association of Genocide Scholars.
The president said the international struggle against the crime of genocide should get renewed impetus, acquire a new meaning, and use all possible rostrums.
According to the head of state, Yerevan hosted the First Forum ‘Against the Crime of Genocide’ as part of the commemorative events on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The forum participants suggested that Armenia should assume the role of a leader in this cause and hold the forum on a regular basis. “After conducting the necessary discussions, we accepted that proposal and we plan to hold a forum every second year, starting from 2016”
