Ex-teacher sentenced to 2-30 years in prison for sex with 3 students
A 35 year old former Davis High School English teacher will spend the next 2 to 30 years inside the walls of the Utah State Prison.
"I'm human and I messed up during a very vulnerable point in my life," a tearful Altice said referring to her failing marriage. "During the time I was going through feelings of rejection, no sense of belonging, abandonment, fear and was bound by emotional chains that just kept getting thicker and tighter. I descended on a very slippery slope and hit the bottom."
Altice hoped to avoid prison with a lighter sentence of jail time and counseling.
"I ask that you practice mercy and compassion toward me today," Altice said. "Please give me a chance to continue building my life with my loved ones."
Altice previously pleaded guilty to three 2nd degree felony counts of Forcible Sexual Abuse for multiple sexual encounters with three male students who were 16 of 17 years old at the time. She was originally charged with 14 felonies, including rape.
"For me this is real life, not just some news story, not just some case," Altice said. "There's a real person with real children and a real family behind it all....My children need their mother back. I'm not a risk. I'm not violent. I'm not a threat to anyone."
The mother of one victim referred to as "Student #1" told the court her son was psychologically and emotionally damaged and hasn't been the same since.
Judge Kay gave Altice three 1 to 15 year sentences, two to be served consecutively and one concurrently for a total of 2 to 30 years.
