Artsrun Hovhannisyan: Tragic incident in Azerbaijani village is possibly result of careless handling of ammunition
Azerbaijani media spread misinformation about the incident in Alibeyli village in Azerbaijan’s Tovuz region where three local residents suffered splinter injuries. The Azerbaijani side is accusing groundlessly Armenian troops of opening fire.
The Azerbaijani website Salamnews reported that a 12-year old girl, Narmin, her brother Tunchai Khanbabayev, 8, and a woman, Durdana Nagiyeva, 44, were taken to Tovuz central regional hospital and are now undergoing treatment there. They are said to be in satisfactory condition.
Commenting on the situation in an interview with Panorama.am, the spokesman for Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan said that the reports are misinformation of a provocative nature.
“We are ready to assist in conducting comprehensive international medical examinations. Any organization with a mandate can investigate the incident and expose the lie of the Azerbaijani side,” A. Hovhannisyan said.
According to him, the incident possibly resulted from Azerbaijani servicemen’s careless handling of ammunitions. “Or, it is possible that ammunition fell in the hands of those children. This led to such tragic consequences”, the ministry spokesman said.
