Draft Constitution expected to be published today
The Commission on Constitutional Reforms will publish today the draft Constitution of Armenia, a member of the Commission told Panorama.am, noting that there is such an agreement in the Commission now.
“Much work has been done on the text, which should be edited and published,” the commission member said.
In an earlier interview with Panorama.am, member of the Commission, Dean of Yerevan State University’s Department of Law Gagik Ghazinyan said there will be seven main chapters in the draft Constitution.
“After the main part of the Constitution is published, we will accept proposals, in other words, we will start public debates of those chapters,” Ghazinyan said.
The draft Constitution to be debated may undergo changes if any acceptable proposals are submitted. The discussion stage will end in late July. The draft will then presented to the Armenian president and, if approved, it will be submitted to National Assembly in August, G. Ghazinyan said.
“I cannot say how long the debates in the National Assembly will last. The referendum date will be set after the draft has been adopted by National Assembly. I cannot indicate the date. The Commission is not responsible for that stage”, Ghazinyan said.
