4 gas filling stations closed, several fined for violation of fire-prevention rules
Inspections are underway at gas filling stations of Armenia by an order of Minister of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsyan.
As a result of inspections in June and July, it was decided to close down 4 CNG filling stations and impose fines on several stations in Yerevan and Armenian provinces for violation of fire prevention rules, the ministry’s press service said.
Armen Yeritsyan said earlier during a briefing on July 8 after a session of the government that inspections would continue, although not on a daily basis.
The minister said that old CNG cylinders are very often the cause of explosions at gas filling stations. Another cause is refueling done by stations’ employees to attract customers due to intense competition in the sector. Besides, he said, 60-70% of vehicles in Armenia run on natural gas, which also contributes to an increasing number of problems.
Yeritsyan stressed at the time that some business entities would be punished following the checks. “We conduct inspections at all CNG filling stations, regardless of who owns them,” he noted.
