Turkey won’t benefit from ‘unfreezing’ of Karabakh conflict, expert says
No large external force is currently interested in ‘unfreezing’ of the situation of Nagorno Karabakh, Yerloslav Shimov, a correspondent of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Russian service, said in an online interview conducted by Region research center.
“Russia has been drawn into a confrontation with the West, while Turkey has enough its own domestic political problems, along with the hotbed of tension that emerged in connection with activities of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. I don’t think that under such conditions anyone will benefit from reopening the old wounds, so to speak,” the expert noted.
‘Sadly, there is another ‘unfrozen’ conflict – that in eastern Ukraine - in the post-Soviet territory. The situation in other conflict zones of the former USSR largely depends on whether the conflict in Ukraine will be resolved in the near future with the participation of all interested parties,” Y. Shimov said.
