Armenian president: Authorities of Azerbaijan gave us a big present by holding European Games in Baku
“I can say with all sincerity that the Azerbaijani leadership gave us a very big present by holding the European Games in Baku and ensuring peace and stability over that period not only on the line of contact, but also at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. To be more precise, it was an illusion of peace and stability,” Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said today during a joint press conference with President of the European Council Donald Tusk who is on a visit to Yerevan.
Serzh Sargsyan said the ‘present’ consists in the fact that the international community made sure which side creates tension, which he said is extremely important. The Armenian president called on Donald Tusk and all European organizations to abandon the policy of putting the sign of equality and, like the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs in January, take an isolated approach and say who exactly opens fire, who causes tension, who wants a war.
S. Sargsyan said that when a sign of equality is being put, then an atmosphere of impunity follows, detaching people from reality. It is because of this situation that Azerbaijani president allowed himself to make yet another ‘arrogant speech’.
“We are accustomed to the fact that such insolent speeches often reach curiosity,” S. Sargsyan said. He asked a rhetorical question: Isn’t it absurd when a man who became president hereditarily accuses other people of assuming power with the support of others, or when a man propagandizing xenophobia from morning till night and calling Armenians “the worst people” accuses Europe and Armenia of xenophobia and racism?
“For this reason the sign of equality should be removed. I am confident that however tempting the smell of oil, gas and caviar are for representatives of European structures and many in Europe, nevertheless we will find the right path,” the president of Armenia said.
