Mohammad Raiesi: Relations between Armenia and Iran will further develop from now on
The nuclear agreement reached between Iran and six world powers and the lifting of sanctions against Iran will have a very important impact on the region, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mohammad Raiesi said at a meeting with reporters.
“With the removal of sanctions, Iran will be able to develop further its relations at the international level, with neighbors. Cooperation with neighboring countries is a key pivot of Iran’s policy. We have very good relations with Armenia and these relations will develop even more after the lifting of sanctions,” he said.
According to the ambassador, Armenia and Iran cooperate in various spheres. “Numerous projects were signed, including those on the Meghri hydropower plant, electricity swap, construction of North-South transport corridor, but they were not realized. No doubt, the implementation of those projects will have quite a positive effect on the Armenian economy”.
$3 billion 200 million is needed for the construction of Armenia-Iran railway, but there is no investor for the program’s implementation at the moment, M. Raiesi said.
In his words, one of Iran’s goals is to carry out the projects it signed with Armenia.
The ambassador expressed hope that the economic links between Armenia and Iran will reach the level of political relations.
He also announced that high-ranking Iranian officials, in particular Iran’s Vice President, are expected to visit Armenia in the coming months.
