Barzani Calls on Turkey to Stop Attacks on PKK
Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani is calling for an immediate end to Turkish airstrikes on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) bases in the Iraqi Kurdistan mountains.
A source from the Kurdistan Presidency Office, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told BasNews on Saturday that President Barzani has called Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and asked him to stop the attacks on the PKK in Qandil.
Barzani told Davutoğlu that the problems should be solved by peaceful dialogue and reiterated KRG support for the Kurdish- Turkish peace process in Turkey and the laying down of weapons by both sides.
On Friday night and Saturday morning, Turkish military jets targeted PKK fighters in the Qandil mountains and surrounding areas.
After the attacks, the PKK said that the ceasefire with the Turkish army is no longer in effect.
