PM Hovik Abrahamyan attends opening of European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi
During his working visit to Georgia, Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended on July 26 the opening ceremony of the European Youth Olympic Festival. He traveled to the Olympic village to meet with the members of the Armenian delegation participating in the Olympic Festival, the government press service said.
The Armenian athletes and coaches said the prime minister’s presence was important and inspiring and that they will do their best to win medals. The prime minister told them he considers it important to develop sports in Armenia and is ready to discuss any proposal to that effect.
Armenian Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Gabriel Ghazaryan said for his part that on the prime minister’s initiative, sports equipment of a total of 170 million drams was provided to sport schools and national federations from the 2015 state budget funds.
Delegations of 49 countries are participating in the Olympic Festival in Tbilisi on July 26 – August 1. Armenian athletes are competing in 6 out the 9 types of sports this year – judo, gymnastics, track and field, swimming, tennis and bicycling. The delegation is composed of 22 athletes.
