Expert G. Petrosyan predicts serious clashes in Turkey
A complex chaotic situation has emerged in Turkey and it continues on several fronts simultaneously, Gevorg Petrosyan, an expert on Turkey, said during a press conference in Yerevan today.
In his words, in addition the Kurdish problem becoming more acute, Turkey is facing problems with the Islamic State militant group and has failed to form a coalition government in the past month. The expert considered the latter problem as a serious one that could lead to snap elections in the country.
“This may create new problems, given the aggravation of the Kurd issue as the current authorities will make an attempt to hinder Kurdish parties, which may result in very serious clashes,” Petrosyan said predicting that the next few months will be ‘hot’ in Turkey.
As reported, the situation in Turkey has escalated over the past week after the terrorist act perpetrated by the Islamic State in the city of Suruc on the border with Syria and the killings of policemen in southeastern provinces, with the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) claiming responsibility for the murders. These developments were followed by Turkey’s air strikes on Islamic State in the north of Syria and PKK in northern Iraq. Turkey also used tanks and carried out artillery attacks from the border area. In response, PKK said on its website that a truce with Ankara is senseless. Turkish President Erdogan also rejected the peace process.
