Finance ministry: Import and export of goods liable to excise duty simplified with Armenia’s entry into EEU
About 70% of the applicants at the Finance Ministry’s customs house specializing in goods liable to an excise duty conduct operations in Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member states, according to the press service of Armenian Finance Ministry.
The ministry said that since Armenia’s entry into the EEU in 2015, the whole process of importing and exporting goods liable to an excise duty has been simplified, and the customs house actively informs applicants about the new procedure in order to ensure a smooth transition to the new requirements.
Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan signed a treaty on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on May 29, 2014 in Astana. The EEU introduces the free movement of goods, capital, services and people and provides for common transport, agriculture and energy policies. On January 1, 2015 the EEU became the legal successor of the Customs Union. The parliament of Armenia ratified on December 4, 2014 an agreement on Armenia’s accession to EEU with 103 votes in favor, 7 votes against, and one abstention. On January 2, 2015 Armenia became a full member of the EEU. Kyrgyzstan signed documents on its accession to EEU on December 23 of last year and ratified them in May 2015.
