‘Stand Up, Armenia’ movement supporters to block all streets leading to Republic Square in Yerevan
‘Stand Up, Armenia’ civic movement announced that the Armenian police earlier prevented movement supporters from holding a sit-in in Republic Square in downtown Yerevan. The civic movement said in a statement that such actions run counter to Article 24 of the Law on Freedom of Assembly, and for that reason the sit-in protest participants will block all the streets leading to Republic Square from 7pm to 9 pm today so as to ‘make the police act within the law’.
“We urge all drivers and employees of city transport companies to avoid using Republic Square and the streets leading to it in the indicated period of time,” the statement notes.
