Armenian government, UN sign five-year cooperation program
The 2016-2020 development assistance program was signed between the Armenian government and the United Nations today. The document was signed by Armenian Prime Minsiter Hovik Abrahamyan and UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Bradley Busetto.
The press office of government reports that H. Abrahamyan expressed satisfaction that Armenia made progress in the UN Millennium Development Goals, in particular, provision of general elementary education, reduction in the infant mortality rate, improvement of maternity heathcare, and the fight against malaria, AIDS/HIV and other diseases. In his words, Armenia attaches great importance to post-2015 development agenda and sustainable development goals and is willing to start implementing these goals after their adoption in September.
Bradley Busetto said for his part that the document reflects the vision of cooperation. He considered it a strategic instrument for planning the UN’s assistance and a result of joint efforts of the Armenian governemmt, civil society, and the UN Office in Armenia.
