Defense ministry: The US will continue assisting with defense reforms in Armenia
First Deputy Defense Minister of Armenia David Tonoyan made a working visit to the United States where he had official meetings with Deputy Assistant Secretaries of State Jeremy Brenner, Rob Berschinski, John Heffern, Todd Chapman, Directors of the U.S. National Security Council Celeste Wollander and Victoria Taylor, and prominent members of the lobbying groups of the Armenian community in the U.S., the press service of Armenian Defense Ministry said.
Issues related to international and regional security, the development prospects of Armenian-American defense cooperation, and the implementation of joint programs were discussed at meetings.
The sides focused on humanitarian demining, peacekeeping capacity building, military training issues, strengthening of human rights in the armed forces, defense reforms, and other issues of mutual interest. The sides reaffirmed their readiness to honor bilateral commitments as well as joint commitments in international structures such as the UN, the OSCE, and NATO and assume new commitments.
The American side said it will continue providing assistance to the current programs and new initiatives, praising the achievements in defense reforms and programs on capacity building and human rights strengthening in the armed forces.
