Book on history of Armenian village Tomarza released in English on Armenian Genocide centenary
The book “Memories of Tomarza” by Wisconsin-based Toros Madaghjian has been released in English on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Armenpress news agency reports citing Journal Times.
According to Armeniangenocide100.org, the book contains historical and ethnographic information about the foundation and development of the Armenian village of Tomarza and how its population fled to Wisconsin in 1915. The book also includes testimonies and memoirs by Tomarza residents recorded 60 years ago.
Toros Madaghjian immigrated to the United States in 1910 and was a resident of Racine Wisconsin until his death in 1989. “Memories of Tomarza” was his 1st book. The book was originally published by the author in Armenian in 1959 to tell the stories and share memories with those who came from his village. It was re-published by his granddaughter, Janet Mrazek. The book was translated by the Rev. Arten Ashjian into English and reprinted by the Madaghjian Family in May 2015 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The book is available on Amazon.com.
