By a decision of the Russian garrison military court in Armenia, an open court sitting to examine the criminal case of Russian soldier Valery Permyakov charged with desertion and theft of weapons is scheduled for August 12, spokeswoman for the North Caucasus military court Alyona Katykalo told RIA Novosti.
The court also decided to extend Permyakov’s arrest until January 30, 2016.
It was announced in late June following a meeting of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Russian Transport Minister, Co-chairman of the Armenian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission Maksim Sokolov that the investigation into the Gyumri mass murder case and the trial will be conducted by Armenian agencies.
The investigation into the murder will be conducted separately. Materials regarding the other crimes – desertion, theft of weapons, and illegal carrying of weapons were sent to the 5th garrison military court of Armenia in early August.
According to preliminary information, in January 2015 V. Permyakov deserted the Russian 102nd military base in Armenia. He entered a house in the city of Gyumri, shot dead 6 members of the Avetisyan family and injured a seventh member of the family, a 6-month-old boy who later died of stab wounds. Permaykov was detained on the same day while trying to cross the Armenian-Turkish border. He pleaded guilty to the killings. Armenia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against Permyakov under Article 104 part 2 point 1 of the Criminal Code – murder of two or more people.
