G. Surenyan: Temperatures in Armenia to rise again from August 10
High temperatures reported in Armenia in the summer of 2015 are unprecedented in terms of their duration since 1843 – the year when weather observations were first conducted in the country, Deputy Head of the Weather Service of Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations Gagik Surenyan told a press conference today.
According to him, high temperatures this year are not an all-time heat record: for example, +43.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in the city of Meghri in 2011, and temperatures reached +42 degrees in Yerevan on August 3, 2010.
Surenyan said the weather will change today, with temperatures gradually falling by 4-5 degrees across Armenia on August 6-8 and by 8-10 degrees in Lori and Tavush provinces.
Yet a new heat wave is coming in from Iraq and temperatures will gradually rise again, hitting +40 degrees before August 15, the weather official said.
“It is hard to tell when temperatures will drop again,” he added.
