The Kremlin starts preparations for New Year
The Kremlin has started preparing for New Year celebrations, the Russian government’s spokesman Victor Khrekov was reported as saying to Interfax, according to Lenta.ru.
“A coordinating committee was set up for the main Christmas tree’s installation. The committee is composed of employees of ministries and departments,” he said.
The main Christmas tree of Russia will be placed inside the Kremlin on December 26, Khrekov said. The festive event is expected to be attended by children from all regions of Russia, as well as Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
According to the spokesman, several dozen options will be proposed at first, from which ten will be selected to decide what the main Christmas tree will look like.
Last year Russia’s 100-year-old main Christmas tree was 31 meters high.
