Zhoghovurd: Nature protection minister does not care about large-scale tree felling in Karchaghbyur community
A large-scale tree felling began in Karchaghbyur community of Armenia’s Gegharkunik province a few days ago, ‘Zhoghovurd’ writes. Local residents told the paper that recently several trucks loaded with timber move out of the forest of Sevan National Park non-profit every day.
In response to an inquiry by ‘Zhoghovurd’ paper, information was received that tree felling is officially allowed, but it was not clarified on what grounds and in what area it can be done, as well as where those thick-trunked trees are transported. Officials of Nature Ministry and ‘Sevan National Park’ claim that tree felling is carried out inside a military unit, but the paper learned that trees were cut down outside the military unit and the trees were not dry.
“So it turns out that Nature Protection Minister Aramais Grigoryan works based on documents and is quite detached from reality. He believes what others tell him and agrees to everything, while sitting in his comfortable office. He does not seem to care about deforestation going on in forests preserved for years,” the newspaper notes.
