Haykakan Zhamanak: RPA will back former PAP member in Ijevan mayor elections
Chairman of the organizing committee of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Ruben Tadevosyan yesterday told the correspondent of ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ that mayor of Ijevan, former parliamentary deputy of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Vardan Ghalumyan has submitted an application for joining RPA.
“Tadevosyan also said that during the election of Ijevan mayor on September 13, RPA will nominate Ghalumyan as candidate. Vardan Ghalumyan quit PAP after the scandalous events on February 12,” the paper says.
The paper reminds readers that when in November 2001 Vardan Ghalumyan, then a member of Prosperous Armenia Party, defeated the incumbent mayor, RPA member in Ijevan mayoral election, representatives of the non-governing ‘four’, particularly PAP, declared that the change of power was starting from the city of Ijevan.
