Intense struggle expected during election of Ijevan city mayor
The upcoming election of mayor of the city of Ijevan in Armenia’s Tavush province is going to be an intense race, with 3 candidates, all of them members of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), running for mayor. One of the candidates is the current mayor of Ijevan and another is an ex-mayor of the city.
According to the website of Armenia’s Central Election Commission (CEC), three people – the current mayor of Ijevan Vardan Ghalumyan, director of NikArm football club Armen Khachatryan, and ex-mayor Varuzhan Nersisyan offered themselves as candidats in the mayoral election on September 13.
RPA will nominate V. Ghalumyan as its candidate in Ijevan mayor election. Vardan Ghalumyan is a former MP of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) who quit that party after Gagik Tsarukyan announced his decision to resign as leader of PAP Party and head of ‘Prosperous Armenia’ parliamentary faction.
