The decision will be taken by society – G. Minasyan on constitutional reforms in Armenia
The constitutional reforms are he number one issue on the political agenda of Armenia, and society’s participation is extremely important, the chairman of the Armenian parliament’s standing committee on financial, credit an budgetary issues Gagik Minasyan said at a press conference today.
“A crucial time has come. Regardless of what assessment will be given by political forces, the decision will be taken by society. The important thing is that this decision should be conscious,” Minasyan noted.
In his words, cooperation with the political forces that constitute a minority in the parliament will become one of the most significant achievements of the parliamentary model of government.
“The new Constitution will solve the important issues such as increasing the role of the opposition and society and creating an opportunity to avoid conflict situations peculiar to the semi-presidential model,” he said.
As was reported, on August 4 the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President published the main chapters 1 to 15 of the preliminary version of the draft Constitution. The document is available on the website of Armenian Justice Ministry. The Commission is expected to complete the drafting of the final chapter 16 in the next few days.
