Paul Stronski: Armenia can and should develop multi-vector foreign policy
Armenia can and should develop its multi-vector foreign policy, Paul Stronski, a senior associate in Carnegie’s Russia and Eurasia Program, said today at an online press conference organized by Region research center.
According to him, the West aims to have good relations with Armenia. The EU and Armenia are conducting talks on an alternative to the official Association Agreement, and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan attended the Riga summit, P. Stronski said expressing an opinion that this means that both sides want a good relationship and work to ensure it.
The expert noted that Yerevan and Washington recently signed US-Armenia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA), while an American company has made the largest U.S. investment in Armenia’s history. Security cooperation between the U.S. and Armenia continues, which is yet another example that the U.S. and Armenia seek to maintain good relations, Paul Stronski said.
Armenia is an ally of Russia, but the U.S. will continue its efforts to involve Armenia in security and economic issues, he said.
