Marzoyan: There is passivity in society regarding constitutional reforms
There is passivity in society regarding the constitutional reforms in Armenia, the chairman of International Association of Lawyers and Psychologists NGO Khachatur Marozyan told a press conference today.
“Civil society today keeps silent,” he said.
When commenting on the possibility of a change in the model of government in Armenia after the constitutional reforms, he stressed that in case of a change in the system of government, politicians should display greater political will.
Khachatur Marzoyan said at the same time that he is opposed to the provision on a second round of parliamentary elections.
As was reported, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan submitted yesterday, on August 21, the draft amendments to the Constitution of Armenia to the National Assembly. The draft amendments had been developed by the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President. Vardan Poghosyan, a member of the Commission, has been appointed as official representative of Armenian President for presentation of the draft amendments to the Constitution in the National Assembly of Armenia. Starting next week, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan plans to begin consultations with representatives of political parties regarding the approaches stated in the draft Constitution. The head of state also instructed the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President to continue the dialog with the Venice Commission (VC) over those issues indicated in the VC’s preliminary opinion, around which agreed solutions have not been found so far.
