Israel does not recommend its citizens to visit Azerbaijan because of terror attack risks
Counter-Terrorism Bureau of Israel does not recommend its citizens to travel to a number of states, including Azerbaijan, because of threats of terrorist attacks, Israeli media report, according to the Azerbaijani website Oxu.az.
“Ahead of the autumn holidays, which start with the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) on 13 September and end with Sukkot on 5 October, Counter-Terrorism Bureau published warnings for Israelis travelling abroad. According to the information, a constant potential threat for Israelis remains in Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Kenya and Turkey,” Oxu.az reports.
The Bureau highlights in its statement that all the warnings are based on accurate and checked intelligence information and express real threat.
According to the report, the warnings concern 27 countries, 8 border regions, as well as 6 countries, which are legally banned to visit. In total, the Israelis are not recommended or are banned to travel to 41 countries out of 193 in the world.
The Bureau identifies the threat level as “very high” in Iran, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan, Somali, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The law prohibits the Israelis from visiting Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The Israelis, who are in the territories of the other countries in the list, are recommended to urgently leave them, the report says.
The Bureau stresses that constant potential threat for the Israelis is on in Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Kenya and Turkey.
“The Israeli tourists are recommended to be particularly watchful and careful abroad, and comply with the Bureau’s recommendations, namely not accept unexpected offers both in business and leisure, not accept unexpected and unplanned offers of meetings after darkness and in suspicious places, not let strangers and suspicious people in their hotel rooms, in case of long stays continuously change routes of everyday visits, recreation places, hotels and restaurants,” the article reads.
This is far not the first official warning Israel makes regarding avoiding visits to Azerbaijan. Back in August 2013, Counter-Terrorism Bureau of Israel called on its citizens not to visits a number of countries, including Azerbaijan, because of threats of terror attacks. On September 19, 2011, Israeli Counter Terrorism Bureau warned its compatriots about visits to Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey. Later on, the Operations Division of the General Staff of IDF (Defense Army of Israel) published an order banning officers and warrant officers of IDF from traveling to 36 countries and regions, including Azerbaijan.
