Prosperous Armenia’ satisfied by meeting with President Sargsyan
Member of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), ex-minister of urban development Vardan Vardanyan described as normal today’s meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan held to discuss the process of constitutional reforms.
V. Vardanyan told Panorama.am that during a 40-minute meeting with the president, PAP representatives spoke about their concerns over several provisions of the draft new Constitution of Armenia and put forwards some proposals.
“The head of state expressed his readiness to continue discussions,” Vardanyan said.
Deputy of “PAP” parliamentary faction Vahan Babayan told Panorama.am that the meeting with Serzh Sargsyan took place in quite a warm atmosphere. In his words, they informed the head of state about the issues raising concern, which were also presented yesterday at the meeting with experts of the Venice Commission.
A meeting is also expected soon with Vardan Poghosyan, a member of the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President.
PAP plans to convene sittings of its parliamentary faction and the political council of the party to discuss the constitutional reforms as well as to hold meetings with regional organizations of PAP.
As was reported, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan submitted on August 21 the draft amendments in the Constitution of Armenia to the National Assembly. The draft amendments had been developed by the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President. Vardan Poghosyan, a member of the Commission, has been appointed as official representative of Armenian President for presentation of the draft amendments to the Constitution in the National Assembly of Armenia. This week President Serzh Sargsyan is holding consultations with representatives of political parties regarding the approaches stated in the draft Constitution. The head of state also instructed the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President to continue the dialog with the Venice Commission (VC) over those issues indicated in the VC’s preliminary opinion, around which no agreed solutions have been found so far.
