ARFD representatives positively assess draft new Constitution at meeting with Armenian president
Meetings are underway in the presidential residence: Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan is meeting with representatives of the country’s political forces to discuss the constitutional reform, the presidential press service reported. As part of this process, President Sargsyan conducted a consultation with ARF-Dashnaktsutyun Party (ARFD) members Armen Rustamyan, Aghvan Vardanyan and Arsen Hambartsumyan.
The meeting participants discussed the constitutional reform process in general and touched upon certain provisions of the draft new Constitution of Armenia developed by the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President.
The representatives of ARFD expressed a willingness to continue active comprehensive discussions of the draft Constitution in Armenia’s National Assembly. They said that the approaches, which ARFD finds important and believes they will ensure the country’s development, are reflected in the draft new Constitution.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan submitted on August 21 the draft amendments in the Constitution of Armenia to the National Assembly. The draft amendments had been developed by the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President.
Vardan Poghosyan, a member of the Commission, has been appointed as official representative of Armenian President for presentation of the draft amendments to the Constitution in the National Assembly of Armenia. This week President Serzh Sargsyan is holding consultations with representatives of political parties regarding the approaches stated in the draft new Constitution. The head of state also instructed the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President to continue the dialog with the Venice Commission (VC) over those issues indicated in the VC’s preliminary opinion, around which no agreed solutions have been found so far
