Ashotyan: Government does everything to help well-performing students
The Armenian government earmarked budgetary funds for 2,500 students so that next year 50-100% discounts will be given as compensation to those students from low-income families who have a high GPA, Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan said during a consultation with universities’ rectors.
According to the minister, a study is being conducted to determine how this new system works at universities.
Ashotyan said that this year the government is going to implement a special-purpose policy in border communities. In particular, the number of such communities has been increased from 14 in 2014 to 31. Besides, tuition fees of students from border communities will be cut by 10%, while tuition fees of second-year and senior students - by 20% in case they have a high GPA.
The consultation participants also discussed issues related to raising awareness of students’ educational rights and obligations and ensuring communication among students, the press service of Education and Science Ministry reported. The rectorates were proposed to hold an Open House each month, in parallel with daily meetings.
