Agriculture minister of Armenia promises loan repayment deferment for communities hit by hailstorm
16 communities in Armenia’s Aramvir and Ararat provinces and 3 communities in Shirak province were hit by a hailstorm on August 22.
Armenian Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan made a working visit to Ararat province today to familiarize himself with the situation. He was accompanied by Ararat province governor Rubik Abarhamyan during his visit to Shahumian community which is the worst hit area, according to the press service of Agriculture Ministry.
The minister talked with local residents. He informed them that commissions were set up to assess damage and the results will be presented to the Armenian government.
“Our main task now is to restore the gardens hit by the hailstorm so as to get a good harvest next year,” Karapetyan said.
In his words, the government will also consider deferment of loan repayment by farmers and an individual approach will be taken to each of them.
