NKR Prosecutor’s Office initiates criminal cases against Azerbaijanis over arson of citizens’ arable lands
The Prosecutor’ Office of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic reported initiating criminal cases against persons, who had deliberately set fire to the NKR citizens’ arable lands in border areas in Martakert and Martuni districts.
The Prosecutor’ Office said Azerbaijani citizens, who remain unknown, deliberately set fire to and burnt fields for winter cultivation and fruit trees, belonging to the NKR state reserve funds either on rent or private property, by calculating the direction of the wind towards the fields belonging to the NKR citizens on the areas adjacent to the zone of contact between 21 and 23 June, 2015. The Office stresses the Azerbaijani citizens’ action was motivated by ethnic hatred, dislike and historical animosity.
The NKR citizens of Martakert district suffered a total of over 173 million drams of property and material damage, including over 110 million drams large-scale property damage. Martuni district suffered over 39 million drams damage, according to the report. (1AMD= 0.0021USD)The Prosecutor’s Office stated that Martakert and Martuni district Prosecutor’s Offices initiated criminal cases on the Articles 191.3.1, 191.2.1, and 191.2.4 of the Criminal Code of the NKR (deliberate elimination or spoilage of someone else's property with arson motivated by ethnic hatred, which resulted in large-scale or especially large-scale property damages).
The prosecution and investigation control is carried out by the Prosecutors’ Offices of Martakert and Martuni districts.
On 13 August 2015, the Investigative Committee of the Police at the NKR Government lodged two criminal cases on the Article 191.3.1 of the Criminal Code of the NKR against unidentified citizens of Azerbaijan, who had burnt arable lands belonging to the residents of Hadrut district of the NKR, with the aim of causing harm. In total, the arson caused a damage of over 11 million drams.
