Worried scientist says Blackpool Zoo orangutan is bananas about his girlfriend
A scientist is convinced that a 'womanising' orangutan is trying to steal his girlfriend.
Biochemistry graduate Andrew Ingledow, 22, says the ape, named Ramon, blows kisses and tries to stroke Hollie Gordon's face every time the pair visit the zoo together, according to twimovies.com.
He and Miss Gordon, 22, an amateur photographer, make the 200-mile round-trip from her home in Carlisle, Cumbria, to Blackpool Zoo at least once a fortnight to take pictures of the animals.
And Mr Ingledow, also from Carlisle, is certain he has competition from the 16-year-old ape.
He said: 'Ramon is definitely a womaniser and he has a reputation for trying to woo numerous girls, but he seems to have taken a particular shine to Hollie.
'He's clearly attracted to her as whenever he sees her he comes running over, and if she puts her face near the glass he will stroke it or blow her kisses”.
Ramon, who arrived at Chester Zoo in 2003 from St Petersburg before coming to Blackpool Zoo, lives with three females - mother Vicky and daughters Cherie and Summer.
Angela Jones, acting head of primates at the zoo, said that he has already begun showing signs of nearing sexual maturity and they hope he may soon bring them baby orangutans.
