New Armenian school in Istanbul to welcome 500 pupils
Istanbul’s Armenian community is set to open a new school building in the city’s Bakırköy district for the 2015-2016 academic year, replacing an older building that had served for 171 years, Ermenihaber.com reported citing Hurriyet daily.
The school in Istanbul was built with funds allocated by Surp Asdvadzadzin Armenian Church.
“I am very happy to see that the school is almost completed. Moving to a new building after 171 years makes us all happy,” Surp Asdvadzadzin Church Foundation head Mesut Özdemir said noting that the new school has a gym, a conference hall, and a cafeteria.
500 pupils will attend the school in the 2015-2016 academic year, and the number of teachers will also increase.
