Kurdistan Workers’ Party fighters set fire to TIR lorries driving to Azerbaijan from Turkey
Azerbaijanis residing in Turkey told axar.az that “Kurdistan Workers’ Party” (PKK) fighters had set fire to TIR lorries, which were going to Azerbaijan from Turkey, according to Modern.az.
According to the reports, PKK attacked the lorries in Bitlis. “Interestingly, the Turkish media did not report about that incident, which had occurred a week ago. According to the Azerbaijanis living in Turkey, the TIR lorries with Azerbaijani number plates were taking loads from Turkey to Nakhijevan. The photos taken by the Azerbaijanis distinctly show the license numbers of the three of the lorries (99 HP 581, 10 ZH 866, 10 ZH 771),” the website notes.
In total, seven lorries were burnt and the six of them completely turned into ashes, according to the report.
Azerbaijani website Minval.az cites the Turkish media as reporting the PKK fighters’ August 27 attack on six police officers in an area between the Igdir-Nakhijevan highway and border crossing point at Diluju, near the village Tashburun, Qaraqoyunlu district. The policemen were driving to Diluju from Igdir in a microbus.
One of the law enforcement officers was reportedly injured as a result of the incident. The PKK fighters fled after a return fire. The police have undertaken a large-scale operation to detain them. The injured policeman is hospitalized.
Situation in Turkey has recently sharply escalated after a terror attack organized by the “Islamic State" (IS) in Suruc on the Syrian border and policemen’s killings in the south-eastern provinces, for which the Kurdistan Workers' Party claimed to be responsible. On 24 July 2015, Turkish Armed Forces used F-16 fighters, tanks and artillery to attack the IS positions in the north of Syria and the PKK in north of Iraq from the Turkish border areas. In response, the PKK declared on its website that a truce with Ankara "has lost its meaning." Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also gave up the peace process.
